DIFFICULT CASES

Front tooth implants

Appearance matters especially for front teeth, so planning must consider the gum line and the bone condition together with great care.

A same-day front tooth implant may be right if

The loss of a front tooth has shifted your other teeth

Losing the tooth has made you self-conscious

You would like a brighter, more even smile

The bone supporting the front tooth is damaged too

Why front tooth implants are demanding

The outer bone at the front is thinner than at the back. Understanding that difference and placing the implant accordingly is what makes an esthetically stable result possible.

Choosing the position with future bone shrinkage in mind — the bone at the front is thinner than at the back, so an implant placed inaccurately can end up exposed. We select the position with resorption in mind and graft bone where necessary.

CHECK POINT

If the implant is placed without allowing for bone resorption, the fixture or abutment can show through the gum as a dark shadow, or become exposed.

Poor positioning can leave the fixture visible through the gum

Front teeth matter both functionally and aesthetically, so the restoration is planned with careful attention to angle, bite, colour, shape and alignment.
