Guided implant surgery: placing the implant in exactly the right position, at exactly the right depth and angle

What matters most when placing an implant? Placing it in exactly the right position. When an implant goes in at the right position, depth and angle, the chances of it lasting a lifetime rise considerably. Placed correctly, it receives force from a mechanically favourable direction, and it is far easier to keep clean as well.

Advances in digital dentistry and the spread of 3D CT gave rise to guided implant surgery, making it possible to place an implant exactly where it was planned on the scan. Experienced dentists can of course complete surgery well without such a system, but where many implants are being placed, however carefully one works by hand, it is not easy to match the accuracy of placement planned on a computer and executed with a surgical guide.

This case was carried out with a guide made in advance. Not only can the implants be placed exactly where intended, but the surgery is also much quicker. What sets our clinic apart is that the surgical guide — the most important element in guided surgery — is designed and made in our own laboratory by the treating dentist. And for full-arch cases the temporary teeth can be made beforehand, so the patient can go home wearing them on the day of surgery.

For these reasons, we recommend guided implant surgery whenever a large number of implants is involved.
